Beyond basic to advanced instrument instruction, studying with Jason will prepare you to play jazz music with others. You will learn how to improvise over any tune from "Lester Leaps In" to "Giant Steps." Whether you are interested in improvisation, learning repertoire, or transcribing solos, Jason can help you improve your skills and develop your own individual voice.

SAXOPHONE
Jason has a Doctorate in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Music from McGill University.
He works with students of all ages and abilities, drawing on 20+ years of performance and teaching experience.

Known for his down to earth, patient, and fun approach, Jason specializes in practical and accessible instruction.

Jason has professional experience playing soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones.

Versatility

Jason studied clarinet under Peter Freeman (McGill University) and John Johnson (University of Toronto) and flute under Cindy Shuter (McGill University).
He has been featured on clarinet in several theatrical productions at the Segal Centre for the Performing Arts.

His teaching follows the tradition of master pedagogues Joe Allard and David Liebman in its emphasis on sound production / articulation / the development of a personal sound. Whether you are a novice or an advanced player, he will provide you with the fundamental tools needed to improvise over jazz standards as a practical means to arrive at and apply your unique individual voice.
